HBAN (Halo Business Angel Network), the all-island organisation responsible for the promotion of business angel investment, and a joint initiative of Enterprise Ireland and InterTradeIreland, today announces that its new London Syndicate plans to invest €3 million in Irish start-ups over the next three years. Earlier this year, HBAN partnered with the New York-based Digital Irish Angels (DIA) Syndicate, making the London Syndicate the second of HBAN’s international business angel groups.

The Par Syndicate, a business angel network established by Edinburgh-based venture capital firm Par Equity, acquired International Correspondence Schools in late 2012.
At the time, despite being a long-established “distance learning” specialist, ICS was in danger of administration, with 50 jobs and the hopes of thousands of students at risk.
Now, after half a decade of refocusing and growth, it has been transformed into a fully fledged online education provider and a trailblazer in virtual learning environments.

The addition of the growth funds follows last year’s budget announcement which doubled the investment limit. Investee companies amongst the 46 include: Arbnco – a leading provider of commercial and portfolio real estate energy efficient report and risk mitigation solutions; VTime Holdings Ltd – creators of cutting-edge virtual reality software; and Zilico Ltd – developers of a patented cancer diagnostic device technology that will improve and extend current cancer screening programmes.
