 Wearable medtech Acurable raises €11m Series A funding

Acurable, an award-winning wearable medical devices company, has announced an €11m investment as a result of its Series A funding round. The funds will be used to accelerate the international expansion of its first product AcuPebble SA100 and drive the company towards its ambition to become the preferred solution for home sleep testing worldwide. The investment was led by Kibo Ventures, along with Mundi Ventures, Kindred Capital, angel investors and Comprador Holdings among others.

Signum Surgical secures additional €2.9 million HBAN investment

Signum Surgical, the medical technology company developing innovative solutions to treat colorectal diseases, announces it has successfully raised a further €2.9 million to support its ongoing regulatory and clinical programs. The financing round was led by Halo Business Angel Network’s MedTech Syndicate, a joint initiative by Enterprise Ireland, InterTrade Ireland and Invest Northern Ireland. Additional investment was secured from the Western Development Commission and other angel investors in the medical device industry.

Drug discovery company AMPLY Discovery raises £900,000

AMPLY Discovery Limited has raised £900,000 in a mix of equity and grant funding to develop new drug products using its proprietary AI-driven drug discovery platform.  Investors include Co-fund NI, the QUBIS Innovation Fund, the Helix Way Partnership, and Halo Business Angel Network (HBAN).

The Belfast-based biotech company, which is a spin-out from the Queen’s University Belfast, was established in 2021 to commercialise an innovative drug discovery platform which was developed by researchers in the School of Biological Science at Queen’s. Its technology platform has been the subject of more than eight years of scientific research.

Radiology technology start-up Hexarad raises further £2.2m

Radiology technology start-up Hexarad has completed its Series A funding round with an additional raise of £2.2 million. This is in addition to £2.3 million Hexarad raised in 2021, bringing the full raise to £4.5 million. The round was led by Foresight Group, the leading private equity and infrastructure investment manager, who also invested in 2021, with additional participation from angel investors including healthcare leaders Sachin Agrawal based in the US and Henry Carleton based in the UK.

Med spinout VascVersa completes £500,000 funding

VascVersa, an award winning, early-stage regenerative medicine spin out from Queen’s University in Belfast, has completed its second seed funding round, raising over £500,000.  The investment was participated in by Co-Fund NI (managed by Clarendon Fund Managers), QUBIS, the commercialisation arm of Queen’s University Belfast, the Innovation Investment Fund and angel investors from the Halo & Business Angel Network (HBAN).

Spirea will use the funds to initiate its pipeline of superior and differentiated ADCs in the treatment of solid tumours where there is a high unmet need.

Oxford Drug Design receives £2.2m from existing investors and angels

Oxford Drug Design Limited (ODD), a biotechnology company with a proprietary computational and machine learning platform, has raised £2.2M in funding from existing investors ACF Investors, o2h Ventures, Meltwind Advisory, a number of returning angels and new investors and the US-based R42 Group. This brings the firm’s total amount of grant and equity funding to over £10M.

Biotangents secures £2.2m to accelerate rapid disease detection tech

Biotangents, a Scottish biotechnology business, has secured £2.2m of new funding made up from £1.6m from the UK Government’s Innovate UK innovation loans programme and a further £600k from a funding round lead by the investment syndicate Kelvin Capital and with Scottish Enterprise participation to support the development and roll-out of its ‘on farm’ rapid disease detection technology.

HBAN syndicates lead €1.9m investment in SymPhysis Medical

HBAN (Halo Business Angel Network) syndciates have led a €1.925M investment in Galway-based start-up, SymPhysis Medical. Angels from HBAN’s MedTech Syndicate, Irrus Investments and Boole Investment Syndicate invested a combined €925K in the company, which is developing a device that eases the discomfort and distress of fluid in the chest for cancer patients undergoing palliative care.
