En Carta Diagnostics secures €1.5M in pre-seed funding

FRANCE: En Carta Diagnostics, a deeptech start-up developing rapid Point-of-Care (POC) molecular diagnostics kits, has announced €1.5M ($1.63M) in pre-seed funding. This investment will enable En Carta to make a substantial leap forward in achieving preclinical data on a prototype diagnostic kit for its flagship indication, the debilitating Lyme disease, while ensuring its ability to scale industrially.

Italian Angels for Growth joins Rubedo €40m funding round with Khosla Ventures

Rubedo Life Sciences Closes $40M Series A Financing Led by Khosla Ventures and Ahren Innovation Capital. Series A financing to advance clinical development of lead candidate RLS-1496 into Phase 1 studies this year in chronic atopic dermatitis and chronic psoriasis. Financing will also advance respiratory program, recipient of a substantial CIRM grant last year, to development candidate nomination for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Scottish dental tech business Calvicus raises £5 million

Edinburgh-based biotechnology firm, Calcivis, has secured £5m in funding to roll out its cutting-edge dental technology.

The firm's patented system enables early detection of tooth decay - which in turn can enable timely preventive treatment - by deploying a biologic diagnostic agent in combination with an imaging device. Calcivis aims to revolutionise early-intervention diagnostics in dentistry. Its innovative technology uses bioluminescence to highlight quickly and clearly where preventive measures are required before decay becomes irreversible.

Animal Health Angels makes first investment in Marleybones

Animal Health Angels has made its first investment is in Marleybones, a female founded business which is a fresh dog food brand known for its unique pantry fresh® solution.

This is part of a £900k seed funding led by JamJar Investments, the venture capital firm set up by the founders of innocent drinks, and further supported by Active Partners, the consumer investor behind Soho house, Rapha and KatKin. The funds will be used to grow the Marleybones team, expand its presence in both online and offline channels and broaden its retail footprint after its recent UK launches in Waitrose and Whole Foods Market.

Newcells Biotech raises £2.35m for lab models that help avoid animal testing

Newcells Biotech, whose laboratory models are used in drug development and reduce reliance on animal testing, has raised a further £2.35m to boost its growth and help establish itself as a global leader in its field. 

The Newcastle-based company has secured funding from existing investors including the North East Venture Fund, supported by the European Regional Development Fund and managed by Mercia Ventures, Mercia’s own funds and Northstar Ventures. It brings the total raised by the company to date to over £12m.
