SAN DIEGO, USA: Digital health company has CARI Health formed an Advisory Board to support development of its wearable remote medication monitoring device.

DN Capital, the leading European early-stage venture capital firm, and health-tech VC, YZR Capital has led a €5.1m Seed round for filu, a German startup that builds modern tech-enabled veterinary clinics. Lukas Keindl, co-founder of US-based Bond Vet, Rivus Ventures, Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund and angel investors also participated in the round.

San Diego, USA: Digital health startup CARI Health has been awarded an SBIR Fast Track grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), an agency of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to help it bring the world’s first wearable medication monitor to market. CARI Health is eligible for up to $2.8M over three years as project milestones are successfully completed within Phase I and Phase II portions of the grant. The award funding will go toward supporting product development and conducting human clinical studies for CARI Health’s wearable remote medication monitoring device.

Scottish insect genetics business Beta Bugs Limited has secured £1.72 million investment to scale-up the production, sale and supply of its Black Soldier Fly eggs and larvae to the insect farming sector, as a sustainable alternative to current sources of protein for animal feed.

The funding round was led by The TRICAPITAL Syndicate LLP, with participation from SIS Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, Beeches Group, Climate.vc, together with existing shareholders in the business and InnovateUK.

Bristol based health tech start-up, Milbotix™, whose wearable SmartSocks™ help identify early signs of distress in people living with dementia, has received a £125,000 investment from the British Design Fund.

Laverock Therapeutics, established in 2021 to commercialise the gene editing induced gene silencing (GEiGS^®) platform for all human therapeutic applications, has expanded its seed funding round to £13.5M. This investment was led by Calculus Capital with additional participation by Eli Lilly and Company, Mercia Ventures, Maven Capital Partners, Eos, UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund and Tekfen Ventures.

Navenio, the UK location tech scaleup, has announced its £5m million investment to help revolutionise healthcare efficiency worldwide. The round was led by Oxford Science Enterprises, and saw Navenio’s existing investors, including G.K. Goh Ventures, Big Pi Ventures, George Robinson, and the University of Oxford, participate. 

Three North East based investment funds have combined forces with a biotech industry specialist to support Newcastle University’s latest spin out company, MarraBio Ltd. Maven Capital Partners, CPI Enterprises, Northstar Ventures, and TCS Biosciences have together provided MarraBio with an initial round of seed investment funding.

Kuano, a Cambridge-based drug discovery company combining quantum mechanics with AI to design the next generation of medicines, has closed a £1.8m seed funding round led by Mercia Ventures and including ACF Investors, Ascension Ventures, o2h Ventures, Meltwind Advisory LLP and other angel investors.

Seattle, USA: Wavely Diagnostics, Inc., a digital diagnostics company developing smartphone-based apps to bring accurate, data-driven virtual pediatric care into every U.S. household, has raised $1.35MM in new funding to advance its first-of-its-kind digital diagnostics platform for enabling virtual ear infection care for children, bringing Wavely’s total investor and grant funding to $6.35MM. The new funding will enable Wavely to seize upon growing interest from healthcare systems and pediatric care providers and accelerate development ahead of its planned public release in app stores later this year. 

Cytomos, an Edinburgh-based life science company that has developed a proprietary new approach to analysing cells, has secured £4 million to scale up market-testing of its technology platform Cytomos Dielectric Spectroscopy (CDS).
