Renew Risk secures £1.7 million seed funding

Renew Risk, a London-based clean-energy risk analytics SaaS startup, has raised £1.7 million seed funding to improve the financing, planning and insurance for renewable energy assets. The funding round is led by strategic investor Insurtech Gateway with participation from ClimateTech fund One Planet Capital, the University of Surrey, and super angels Chris Adelsbach and Rahul Munjal.

Student review platform StudentCrowd raises £2.5m

StudentCrowd, a company which aims to be the ‘Tripadvisor of higher education’ has raised over £2.5m through the MEIF Proof of Concept & Early Stage Fund, which is managed by Mercia Ventures and part of the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF), Mercia’s EIS funds and existing private investors.

StudentCrowd’s platform provides in-depth information on universities, courses and accommodation and produces its own league tables based on reviews from existing students. The funding will enable the Wolverhampton-based company to enhance its platform and expand it to cover other student services.

Driverless car company Conigital secures £500m

Pioneering driverless car company Conigital has secured £500 million in funding supported by the Angels@Essex team which offered invaluable advice and guidance as the start-up launched.  

Conigital now claims £500m injection makes it the highest-funded driverless vehicle startup in the UK and Europe and hailed the investment as an “exceptional milestone”.   The expert team at Essex identified the company as a hot prospect in 2020 after a pitching competition in October 2020, where Conigital won a share of up to £150K.
