'First responder’ motorcycle start-up secures £300k British Design Fund investment

White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), a Northampton start-up that has designed a unique hybrid motorcycle and is already grabbing the attention of UK police forces, has just secured a £150K investment from British Design Fund, along with a further £150k from angel investors.

Aegiq to develop world’s first deployable quantum light with latest funding

Aegiq, a start-up developing solutions to enable wide-scale adoption of quantum technologies around the world, today announces that it has received grant funding from Innovate UK, part of UK Research & Innovation, to develop a field-deployable high-performance quantum light source integrated solution in partnership with Fraunhofer CAP.

Kaiko Systems raises €2m to digitize frontline work in ocean shipping

Kaiko Systems, a Berlin-based software startup digitizing maritime shipping, has completed a seed financing round of € 2 million. Investors participating in the funding round include Schoeller Holdings, Vineta Ventures, A Round Capital, and Flagship Founders, as well as industry experts such as Clasen Rickmers and Justus Kniffka.

Drug discovery company AMPLY Discovery raises £900,000

AMPLY Discovery Limited has raised £900,000 in a mix of equity and grant funding to develop new drug products using its proprietary AI-driven drug discovery platform.  Investors include Co-fund NI, the QUBIS Innovation Fund, the Helix Way Partnership, and Halo Business Angel Network (HBAN).

The Belfast-based biotech company, which is a spin-out from the Queen’s University Belfast, was established in 2021 to commercialise an innovative drug discovery platform which was developed by researchers in the School of Biological Science at Queen’s. Its technology platform has been the subject of more than eight years of scientific research.

Swiss techbio company Hedera Dx, founded in 2021 by veteran healthcare entrepreneurs and executives, has raised €14m to support the launch this Autumn of a blood-based testing solution to profile cancer DNA circulating in the blood, helping patients access better treatments.

Female angel investors have helped drive more than £2bn of investment in companies across the UK in the past decade, a new study reveals today.

The Women Angel Insights report from the UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA) and Beauhurst reveals that more than 5,000 women are making angel investments across the UK, helping to create over 10,000 jobs in the past decade.
