Female founders flourish in food and drink, as The Seed Fund reports industry shift

 

Philanthropic start-up accelerator, The Seed Fund has revealed a growing trend for new food and drink businesses to be run by women, with 58.2% of entries into this year’s Academy coming from female entrepreneurs. Continuing a theme in entry demographics reaching back into 2016, when only 46.2% of entries were submitted by female founders, the past four years have seen a steady shift in the gender of applicants, jumping by 5% in the last year alone.

Design Graduate secures £350k in Angel Funding to scale Luxury home brand

 

Jenny Evans started her luxury homeware brand, Jenny Kate, whilst studying Textiles at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She won the national Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Award in 2018 and has been massively supported by her University and Santander on her start-up journey.  Post-graduation she secured a place in the Natwest Entrepreneur Accelerator in Cardiff and was in the audience at the #PitchIt event hosted by Cardiff Met, organised by BeTheSpark and delivered “dragons den style” by the InspireWales Angel consortium .

Welsh start-up Hexigone secures £1m from Development Bank of Wales

A start-up company that has discovered a safer, smarter way to tackle corrosion has secured a cash injection of £1m; which will support ambitious plans to become the industry standard in anti-corrosion technology.

Corrosion costs the world economy 2.5 trillion dollars every year, and last month, the EU banned its most effective inhibitor, hexavalent chromate, because of health concerns. Hexigone Inhibitors plugs the gap by offering a new additive for metal coatings that is safer and can be up to ten times more effective than chrome-free alternatives…protecting buildings, cars and aeroplanes for longer.
