NPIF - Maven Equity Finance invests £12m since launch

NPIF - Maven Equity Finance, managed by Maven Capital Partners and part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, has invested £12 million in dynamic growth businesses across the Northern Powerhouse region since it launched, driving economic prosperity and supporting the creation of over 200 jobs. Following such a significant milestone, Maven has strengthened its team with the appointment of senior investment specialists Andy Round and Karen de Meza to increase the level of support to local companies across all stages of the investment process and for ongoing business support.

First innovation loans offered to businesses improving smart cities and transport

Innovate UK has offered £8 million to 13 businesses developing innovative solutions for the UK’s urban infrastructure, energy and transport challenges. The 13 businesses compete in a new global smart infrastructure market, estimated to be worth £1.2 trillion per year by 2025.

YOOBIC to expand into US as it raises $25m
YOOBIC, whose platform provides real-time monitoring of retail operations, has raised $25m (£18.8m) of new funding.

The round was led by Insight Venture Partners, a New York-based venture capital and private equity firm. Felix Capital, the London-based venture firm who led YOOBIC’s Series A in November 2016, also participated.

£150k Mercia funding helps Universal Coatings on path to growth

A Doncaster engineering firm which made the steel walkways for the sports complex in the 2012 Olympics has secured a £150,000 loan from NPIF - Mercia Debt Finance, which is managed by Mercia Fund Managers and is part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.

Universal Coatings will use the money to fulfil new contract wins and expects to create an additional seven jobs as a result. The company provides coatings for everything from swimming pools to steel structures and also offers a complete fabrication service. In addition to supplying fixtures for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and other events, it has built many canal bridges and specialises in conservation work such as the restoration of statues and structures at heritage sites.
